Posted: 08/28/2013 08:19 EDT

We enjoy featuring aspiring journalists and invite you to read the latest interview by Nadia Chervnsik, an eight-year-old Exley Elementary third grader. As a junior correspondent, Nadia specializes in a “three questions” format as she approaches notable artists and athletes. You may have seen her interview with The Voice winner Danielle Bradbery, and read ahead for her interview with NASCAR racecar driver Kristin Bumbera (www.kristinbumbera.com).

Kristin:  I was 7 years old when I drove in my first race! It was in a go kart at Hill Top Raceway Park in Waller, TX.

2.  Do you want your son, Bentley, to race cars when he grows up?

Kristin:  Unfortunately, I don’t think I have a choice. I can’t exactly tell him no, because he will just say, “Mom you did!” It’s an expensive sport, so I better start looking for sponsorship now.

3.  Do you work on your own car?

Kristin:  My Dad taught me from the day I started that if I wanted to race, I would have to work on my own racecar. If I wrecked it, I had to at least help fix it. It helped me learn the ins and outs of the car and how it operates.
